Managing and monitoring an xfServer system

Synergy/DE includes several tools to help you manage your xfServer system.

By default, xfServer logs start/stop information and errors to the Windows application event log. You can log additional information about user connections by turning on event logging. (See the “Enable logging” field in Modifying the SynSrv xfServer service.) The log of events appears under the rsynd source.

Note

The event log fills up quickly. Remember to clear your event logs.

You can also monitor which files are open, who opened them, and whether they are locked by using the Monitor utility for Windows (synxfmon).

xfServer includes utilities you can use to manage your client/server system. To use these utilities, add the appropriate option when you invoke the rsynd command. For example, to start the Monitor function so you can track client/server activity, use the -m option when you execute the server command:

rsynd -m

The -m option does not restart the existing rsynd daemon; it merely enables monitoring. See Monitor utility for UNIX for additional information about monitoring the client/server system.

xfServer includes a utility called servstat that you can use to manage your OpenVMS server. See servstat program for more information.
