"D" Is for Developer
A Blog post by Richard Morris, Sr. Professional Services Consultant
|
Development of your traditional Synergy code in Microsoft’s Visual Studio was introduced at the DevPartner Conference back in 2016. Using an integrated development environment (IDE) like Visual Studio not only promotes better code development practices and team development but shows prospective new hires that your tooling is the latest and greatest.
The next release of Synergy—10.3.3d—includes all the capabilities now required to fully develop and build your traditional Synergy–based applications in Visual Studio.

Tech Tip
Issue in isutl 10.3.1b – 10.3.3c. Update your Synergy DBMS utilities to 10.3.3d.
|
We discovered an issue in the isutl utility that could cause index errors in your ISAM files. The issue was introduced in Synergy/DE 10.3.1b and fixed in 10.3.3d. If you have Synergy/DE versions 10.3.1b, 10.3.3, 10.3.3a, 10.3.3b, or 10.3.3c (Unix or Windows), we strongly recommend that you
- Update to isutl 10.3.3d, either by downloading/installing the complete Synergy/DE 10.3.3d distribution or just downloading/installing the 10.3.3d Synergy DBMS utilities. (Even if you have not used the isutl from one of the affected versions, updating to 10.3.3d now will ensure that you don’t use an isutl with the issue in the future.)
- Run "isutl –v" on any of your files that may have been re-indexed (via “isutl –r” or “isutl –ro”) with any of the affected versions. This will verify the files and determine whether any index errors are present.
- If a file shows index errors, re-run “isutl –r” to re-index the file and correct the errors. You can then verify the file again with "isutl -v".
or view information about isutl in our online documentation. Contact support@synergex.com if you have any questions.

Traditional Synergy is Ready for Visual Studio. Are You?
|
|
Fun Fact
Did you know that Microsoft’s Visual Studio product uses place names as its code names? For example, the first Visual Studio version, Visual Studio 97, was code named “Boston.” Visual Studio 2005 and 2008 were code named “Whidbey” and “Orcas,” which are islands in Puget Sound.

“I have been using the new documentation regularly and have found it to be significantly better than the previous manuals. … I have to say, these look great and are very clearly presented.”
