Tech Tip Customizing Startup of Synergy Services on Newer Linux Systems that Use systemd![]() Times are changing, and migrating servers to better hardware can be exciting or a last-minute panic, depending on the current state of the old hardware. Of course, newer hardware needs newer software, and newer software means learning how to do things the “new” way. Many Linux distributions have moved from the way they start services (daemons) when a machine boots. They have standardized to using systemd to handle system initialization. This affects Synergy daemons that you want running on system start, like Synergy Licensing as well as xfServer/xfServerPlus. These daemons now need to be launched through systemd. But if you aren’t familiar with systemd, it can add more workload to a system migration. However, the basics for starting Synergy daemons as well as an explanation of what options you can use for systemd are provided in KnowledgeBase article 2522, along with sample scripts you can copy and paste to get you started. Take a look. If you’re ever in a situation where you’re moving your application to a new Linux machine and need a way to launch Synergy daemons on start, you’ll be glad you read how to do it here! ![]() Fun Fact Alaska is the only American state that can be typed on one row of a traditional QWERTY keyboard.
