Changing the licensee name
The licensee name entered during installation must match the one given to Synergex when the license was ordered. If they do not match, the install code cannot be applied, and you’ll see the error “licensee name not found.” See Fixing licensee name mismatches for instructions on how to resolve this.
There are other times you may need to change the licensee name, such as when a company name changes or a new developer takes over an existing system. This type of change usually occurs after product keys have been installed, but occasionally customers need to rename a license immediately after installing, even before applying the install code. For these types of changes, see Renaming a licensee .
Fixing licensee name mismatches
Follow this procedure if the licensee name entered on the system during installation does not match the licensee name that Synergex was given when products were ordered. (You can see the licensee name that was specified when the order was placed in the Licenses area of the Synergex Resource Center [license admin access required].) You can change either the name on the system or the name in Synergex’s database.
To correct the licensee name on the system
You can change the licensee name from the command line or, on Windows, from the Synergy Configuration Program. (See Changing the licensee name from the Synergy Configuration Program (Windows).)
This procedure requires an install code. You can use the install code that you received when you ordered the license or, if it has expired (install codes are valid for 14 days), you can generate a new one following the instructions in Obtaining an install code.
From the command line,
Windows: lmu -rNewLicenseeName -ns -installCode
Unix: lmu -rNewLicenseeName -installCode
If NewLicenseeName contains spaces, it must be enclosed in quotation marks (" "). This command will change the licensee name, which causes a new registration string to be generated, and it will transmit the new string to Synergex. Then, product keys will be generated, downloaded, and installed.
To correct the licensee name in Synergex’s database
This procedure requires license admin access to the Synergex Resource Center.
1. | Go to the Licenses area of the Synergex Resource Center, log in, and select the Manage Licenses button. |
2. | Locate the license you want to change on the list of your company’s licenses and click on the license number to select it. (You can change the Show drop-down to New Licenses to limit the list.) |
3. | Click the Edit button, change the licensee name, and click Save. |
After you’ve changed the licensee name on the website, you can apply the install code (that you received when you ordered the license) on your system to generate, download, and install product keys. (See Applying an install code.) If the install code has expired (install codes are valid for 14 days), generate a new one following the instructions in Obtaining an install code.
Renaming a licensee
Follow this procedure when you need to change the licensee name on the system and in Synergex’s database (such as after a company name change). The procedure is the same regardless of whether it’s an established system with product keys installed or a new system on which Synergy/DE has just been installed (but you have not yet applied the install code and downloaded product keys).
You can perform this procedure from the command line or, on Windows, from the Synergy Configuration Program. (See Changing the licensee name from the Synergy Configuration Program (Windows).)
1. | If you do not have an install code, obtain one following the instructions in Obtaining an install code. |
2. | Run the following command: |
Windows: lmu -rNewLicenseeName -ns -installCode
Unix: lmu -rNewLicenseeName -installCode
If NewLicenseeName contains spaces, it must be enclosed in quotation marks (" "). The licensee name will be changed on the local system and updated in Synergex’s database. A new registration string will be generated and then product keys will be generated, downloaded, and installed.
3. | Contact Synergex Customer Service to sign a Synergy/DE License Reinstall Agreement. |
Changing the licensee name from the Synergy Configuration Program (Windows)
You can use SynConfig to change the licensee name when there is a mismatch (and you need to correct the name on the machine) or when you need to rename the licensee (such as after a company name change).
1. | If you do not have an install code, generate one following the instructions in Obtaining an install code. |
2. | Start the Synergy Configuration Program and click the Advanced button on the Licensing tab. |
3. | In the Advanced License Manager dialog, click the Change button (next to the Licensee name field). |
4. | In the Change Licensee Name dialog, type the new licensee name and enter the 4-character install code. |
5. | Click OK. The new name will display in the Licensee name field, a new registration string will be generated, and then product keys will be generated, downloaded, and installed. |
6. | If you renamed the licensee (as opposed to just fixing a name mismatch), contact Synergex Customer Service to sign a Synergy/DE License Reinstall Agreement. |
